Death Wisdom

The gift of death is when the falling becomes the flying, and what was I is now the sky.

The cost of death is breaking free from the cage that was

and breathing into what is true now.

This is the living, breathing, dying into who you truly are, was, and will always be.

Death is the crumbling of the towers you have built for yourself.

The ideas and beliefs kept you safe and ignorant of the splendorous world within and without you.

You are not the apex of the tower.

You are not the construct.

You are not any man-made foundation.

You are not the underground tunnels of your thoughts.

You are the vastness of the sky, the depth of the earth.

You are the knowing and the being.

We are the dying, and only when you keep dying can you truly live.

Now is the Spring, the new beginnings, the fresh life, the budding forth.

All this newness emerges on its own after the Winter.

Death is the non-effort of letting go.

Death and dying is the greatest bravest act.

The nobility of the tree lain bare, exposed to the cold, humble and vulnerable.

The tree cannot hold on to leaves, blooms, fruit.

They all must fall away.

They all must be lost.

The nobility of the brave soul departing the body home,

taking I to the unknown to finally cross the threshold with the last exhale.

This nobility is not just yours once in your life. It is not only tasted in the last breath.

It is in every breath. With each exhale

"This is a death."

At each sunset,

"This too is a death."

With each goodbye-

is this not also a death?

Closing our eyes to sleep is the death of the day.

Opening our eyes with the sun is the death of the night.

How can you honor the death you walk with daily?

Crossing the path of a fallen bird, know that this is death.

It came for this little one as it will come from you, yours, and all you know.

The "bye for now" of a loved one - know there is no assurance when the next "now" will be, how or when you might meet again.

We have no assurance in this life.

Death is our surety, our rock, the only true foundation and stocking place.

Stand on the stones of death, and your foundation will never falter.

It will only transform.
